Unhealed Wounds

They say keep the people that mean the world to you
Close to your heart, and in front of your sight
People who you stood by in their highs and lows
Yet they always leave our lives without a fight

Then they say time heals an open wound
But the scar it leaves is never to be forgotten
A scar you carry around for the rest of your life
A reminder that questions every truth you take in

They say everything is going to be okay,
If not, then it's not the end of the world
But what if you never live to see tomorrow
What if the universe stops to twirl?

Then a day comes when you realize that
To belong to someone is what you need
But you have to learn that in this life
Even a healed wound may start to bleed

So if you trust again you could get hurt
And if you don't, you may be a lonely ranger
But sometimes you have to take your chances
Even if it means to start trusting a stranger
